KAUST Coastal and Marine Resources Core Lab, The KAUST School and KAUST Enrichment for Youth brought the MATE ROV Competition to Saudi Arabia!
The competition welcomed students Grade 4 to Grade 12 from across the country to test their STEM skills by designing, building, applying, and funding their own remotely operated underwater vehicles - ROVs.
The participants compete in the following ROV classes: Scout and Ranger.
The Ranger class winner qualifies to represent Saudi Arabia at the 2023 World Championship in Longmont Colorado, USA - June 22-24, with June 20-21 reserved for team check-in and vehicle safety checks.
The one-day event consists of two mission attempts, a marketing display poster, and an engineering presentation:
Saturday morning - safety inspections and pool demonstrations
Saturday afternoon - pool demonstrations and engineering design presentation
Saturday afternoon - award ceremony
The MATE ROV Competition Saudi Arabia is one of the many programs that are coming to the nation brought by KAUST.
CMR Core Lab is building the first regional section of the Marine Technology Society (MTS), which brings together academia, industry and government with interests in marine technology.
MATE ROV is currently being integrated into MTS.
